To Martin With Love   NFS

quilt
77x82

To Martin with Love is a Baltimore Album quilt
(actually made when we were married 21 years) contains
facets of our lives together. It was made in appreciation
for all the things Martin has done for
me while working in this art form.
The quilt was appliqued by hand and hand quilted on a
frame, took about a year to make.

We Are All Connected To One Rib

quilt

60x79

This quilt is my tribute to women.
It includes the mother of all, Eve, Maya Angelou,
astronaut Sally Ride, Mother Theresa with a child,
Pocahontas, Florence Nightingale,
a mother and her child, and a tennis player.
Each figure is connected to Eve or each other.
Machine applique and machine quilted.

Florence Nightingale-Angel of the Crimea.

quilt
77x82

It is one in my series of historical quilts. It portrays
Nightingale as she administers comfort to one of the
young casualties of the Crimean War. It was because
of her selflessness that she became known as the
Angel of Crimea.

"The Magic Flute"

quilt
88x94

The Magic Flute was made some time ago.
It has received numerous awards throughout the country.
It is made entirely by hand. The flowers were appliqued
in a tiny buttonhole stitch that some people think is
machine applique. The colors of the thread changed
as the color of the fabric changed.
The Magic flute took 1 and a half years to complete.
It took 2nd place at the AQS show in 1990
and numerous wards throughout the country.

Carpenter Hall-1787

quilt back

80x85

Carpenter Hall 1787
was machine appliqued and machine quilted. I have
enclosed both the front and back of the quilt. It is the
2nd in my series of historical quilts. The back where the
stars are, create a circle of quilted stars around George
Washington's hand which meant that I had to quilt the
flag from the back before I could quilt the front.
Carpenter Hall 1787 took 8 mos. to complete.
Time span also included drafting.

Ohio!!!

quilt
65x88

I took the traditional Ohio Star pattern,
blew it up and gave it dimension. I left the traditional
blocks in the corners. This quilt is hand pieced
and hand quilted.

Osceola, Indian Warrior

quilt
45x70

"Osceola, Indian Warrior "was my first art quilt and my
1st historical quilt. It is now in the permanent
collection in The Museum of Florida History at
Tallahassee, FL. Appliqued and quilted by hand.

Osceola Revisited

quilt
45x76

Since Osceola, Indian Warrior was no longer
in my possession on the 10th anniversary of his making,
I made Osceola Revisited. This quilt is machine
appliqued and machine quilted. I also added a few more
details. Both "Osceola, Indian Warrior"and "Osceola
Revisited" were based on a portrait by George Caitlin,
a noted painter of Indian history.
This quilt is now in the permanent collection in the
Richard and Pat Johnson
Palm Beach County History Museum
in West Palm Beach Fl

Susan's Fan

quilt
81x81

Susan's Fan-made in honor of Susan McCord who
originally made "Trailing Vines". I was so taken
by this quilt, that when I had 3 months free before entering
The Magic Flute for competition, I drafted and completed it.
It contains over 3,000 pieces with no two leaves alike.
Made and quilted by hand.

Peace

quilt
49x57

Peace Quilt.
This quilt was hand pieced and hand quilted.
It has the word "Peace" quilted in the border
in 23 languages. I contacted a Russian church, a
Japanese Museum nearby where I live, and the library
for foreign dictionaries to obtain that information.

I've included the computerized version

The Vision

quilt
72x94

"The Vision" shows Joan of Arc a peasant girl,
as she sees herself saving France.
Each of the figures were posed for
by my kids when they were younger.
(I have 5 but there was not enough room on the
quilt so the 2 youngest are cherubs in the corner)
It was originally an oil painting I did many years ago.

Victorian Delight

quilt
63x87

"Victorian Delight" was designed after viewing
some handmade antique lace .
It is hand appliqued and machine stippled.

Antique Crazy Quilt

quilt
73x81

I've included two utilitarian quilts in my arts quilt collection
as I believe them to be art of old.
This one is quite unusual for it is made of wools,
flannels and has batting and is hand quilted.
I purchased this one for my husband
at an auction for our anniversary.
It is dated 1900 with embroidery by the quilter.
